All entries in this department will be subject to the General Rules and Regulations of the Washington County Jr. Livestock Show, except where they conflict these “Special Rules” of this department, in which case the “Special Rules” will prevail.

Birds are to be purchased by through WCJLS according to date table. Purchase of a minimum of 25 birds, three (3) birds to make your pen. Up to three (3) pens of Market Broilers per exhibitor. Birds will have a wing band when purchased and will need to have wing band in place matching purchasing records to be eligible to show. Birds will be distributed on a designated date at a designated time. The exhibitor will be responsible for the cost for the chicks plus shipping. An exhibitor may enter late until midnight according to date table, for an additional $100 per entry, after that point no nominations will be accepted. Late entry fees must be postmarked according to date table.

Up to 3 pens may be entered. must be electronically nominated in ShoWorks by midnight according to date table, with a hatchery issued band number. There will be a $10 per pen, per exhibitor entry fee for all livestock. Payment for all fees must be postmarked according to date table.

Market Broilers must be checked-in by 7:00 pm on check-in night. Exhibitors of broilers must be present for the check-in unless excused by their supervisor (Ag Teacher or 4-H leader) and the Superintendent of the broiler show.

Broiler exhibitors must be present to hold their broilers for the judge. Two (2) other WCJLS exhibitors may assist in holding the birds. All must be in show attire.

The Grand and Reserve Grand Champion pen of three (3) will be recognized at the WCJLS Premium Sale. All exhibitors will be eligible for add-ons.

Any bird showing signs of disease will not be allowed on the fairgrounds. USDA Wholesome Meat Act applies to all market birds. Only animals available for immediate slaughter may be brought onto the grounds to exhibit.

Birds will be judged on confirmation, fleshing, finish, uniformity of birds within the pen and absence of defects.
