See rule #4 of general rules for entry costs and deadlines. All market animals must provide photos to include a head shot picture and profile picture of the animal with an official USDA tag, and exhibitor in the photo. These pictures can be emailed or postmarked per the date table.

Breeds to show: AOB, Angus, Beefmaster, Brangus, Charolais, Chianina, Gelbvieh, Horned & Polled Herefords, Limousin, Maine-Anjou, Red Angus, Saler, Shorthorn, Simmental, and Crossbred. Animals must exhibit characteristics of the breed they represent. 3 head to make a breed at nomination.

Weights:

Minimum weight of 1000 lbs. Any market steer not making the 1000 lb. minimum will not be allowed to show.

Minimum weight of 500lbs for mini steer breeds. Any mini steer not making the 500 lb. minimum will not be allowed to show.

Commercial Heifers
-
No registration papers will be required for commercial classes. Commercial heifers will be shown by weight.

Registered Breeding Heifers
-
Registration papers will be checked and verified to legible ear tattoos during check-in and must be in the exhibitor's name with an ownership date according to date table. Heifers not meeting this requirement will be shown as commercial.

Registered breeding heifers class break will be:

May 1 and later, 2024 (4-10 mo.)
-
January 1 - April 31, 2024 (11-14 mo.)

September 1 - December 31, 2023 (15-18 mo.)

January 1 - August 31, 2023 (19-26 mo.)

Bred & Owned Class (purebreds only).

Pre-Junior Miniature Hereford Show
Steers
Eligibility for Entry:
-
Exhibitors must be between the ages of 4 and 8 years of age.
-
However, any 3rd grader or 8-year-old is NOT allowed to participate if he/she has any other entries at the WCJLS.
-
All Mini Hereford exhibitors may only show in the Mini Hereford Show. Refer to the online entry process discussed in the rules.
-
They must be nominated by December 3.
Showing of Animal:
-
Participants in this division are required to show their animal.
-
Participants 5 and under will be required to have a parental, sibling, or other participant accompaniment in the show ring.
-

All participants may have a parental, sibling, or other participant accompaniment in the show ring.
-
Participants are to handle the majority of the showing, and use of the show stick.
-
Assistance may help in the control of the animal.
-
All participants are required to have a parental, sibling, or other adult accompaniment to the make ready arena.
-
If the exhibitor has more than one animal in a class any WCJLS exhibitor in the junior or intermediate divisions may act as a substitute showman.
Show Limit:
No maximum on number of steers an exhibitor may show.
Grooming:

Grooming optional
-
Grooming materials leaving any color residue will not be permitted.
Height Requirement:
-
Steers must meet the height requirement of 47” or less.
-
Steers that are over the height restrictions will show in an OOC (out of class) and will not be eligible for prizes.
-
The measurement of the steer will be to the best of the ability of the staff in charge of this task.
-
Any discrepancy is subject to re-measurement, the final decision is that of the show management.
Class Breaks:
Steers will be divided and shown according to weight.
Safety:
-
Safety is the most important factor in this event.
-
All animals in this division MUST be completely broke to lead for the safety of the exhibitors and others in the show ring.
-
Animals deemed not broke will be removed from the show and disqualified from the competition.
Awards:
Awards will be given to exhibitors at the show.
Heifer
